I am a 53 year old happily married man of 31 years who happens to have Sleep Apnea. I did not realize how debilitating this disorder could be until I was diagnosed and treated with Cpap (continious positive airway pressure). If it has not already saved my life, I am convinced that not using Cpap for my disorder would have caused a stroke much like it occured to my father before me. We laughed at him gasp for air after falling asleep on the couch after a round of golf...little did we know it was sleep apnea that we were watching and how his stroke probably could have been prevented before his death in 1997. It can be funny to watch those with symptoms, but deadly if not acted upon. Share your thoughts and learn from those that have this disorder. Ask your questions and look for your answers. Lets talk about and share our experience with Cpap machines, Cpap masks, Cpap equipment and how it has affected our lives. In my case, I would snore like crazy and my wife has put up with it for many years. It took me about 6 weeks to get used to using this wonderful piece of equipment...it was not my favorite choice until I tried a few masks and settled on the ResMed Activa mask and a Respironics Cpap Machine with C-Flex technology. The HMO i belong to just gave me a machine and a cheap mask with no choice and very little interaction with me. I currently use neither of the cpap machine or the mask I was given. I guess this is what they call taking healthcare into your own hands! How about you, I can't believe I am the only one with this experience. The only difference is that I own a sleep lab and I see this happen every day. Sad but true, whats happening with you?
